Spawn-Gang Commander card art
Spawn-Gang Commander enters and immediately floods the board with three 1/1 Spawn tokens, then lets you sacrifice those tokens to pump and grant trample to another Eldrazi attacker — meaningful reach stapled onto a body that replaces itself the moment it lands. The cost is a six-mana creature with no protection, so it needs a shell that can either exploit the enter-the-battlefield trigger repeatedly or leverage the sacrifice outlet at instant speed. Pair it with Purphoros, God of the Forge and each of those three tokens is two damage before the turn even progresses; pair it with Ulalek, Fused Atrocity and the ETB cascades into a board-state that's difficult to recover from.

Best Commanders

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Purphoros, God of the Forge

Purphoros, God of the Forge

23.5% of decks · synergy 0.23

Purphoros, God of the Forge converts the three Spawn tokens Spawn-Gang Commander produces into six damage on entry — no combat step required — which is the core reason it shows up in nearly a quarter of Purphoros lists.

02
Herigast, Erupting Nullkite

Herigast, Erupting Nullkite

20.3% of decks · synergy 0.19

Herigast, Erupting Nullkite reduces the cast cost of Spawn-Gang Commander and rewards you for filling the board with Spawn tokens that can be sacrificed to fuel Herigast's own mechanics, making the two cards a tight two-piece package in that shell.

Commander is where Spawn-Gang Commander does its best work — the 100-card singleton format gives it access to the Eldrazi synergy density and token payoffs it needs to justify six mana. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but functionally irrelevant; those formats end before a six-mana creature with no immediate threat beyond three 1/1s can establish dominance. Modern is the one non-rotating format where Spawn-Gang Commander could theoretically show up in Eldrazi tribal, but the competition for the six-drop slot is steep and the token output doesn't close games quickly enough without dedicated support. Treat this as a Commander card that happens to be legal elsewhere.

Price Context

Current price

$0.22 bulk tier

At $0.22, Spawn-Gang Commander is firmly bulk — easy to pick up as a four-of or to toss into any Eldrazi or token-payoff Commander deck without a second thought about cost. Bulk rares with genuine synergy density tend to stay cheap until a breakout deck pushes demand, so there's no urgency either direction.
