Soratami Mirror-Mage bounces a permanent on demand — repeatable, instant-speed, and attached to a flying body — but the tax is steep: return two Islands each activation. Pair it with Retreat to Coralhelm and a landfall loop and that cost evaporates into a feature; run it outside that shell and you're paying a steep rate for an effect blue can get cheaper.

Soratami Mirror-Mage is essentially a Commander card — the combo infrastructure it requires (dedicated landfall payoffs, land-bounce loops, Retreat to Coralhelm) only comes together in a 100-card singleton format with a synergistic commander at the helm. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but irrelevant; blue has access to far more efficient interaction, and a three-mana creature that needs Islands returned just to bounce a permanent doesn't compete at those power levels. Commander is the one format where the card earns its slot, and even there it belongs in specific landfall or land-bounce decks rather than as a generic blue include.
