Selvala, Eager Trailblazer dumps mana equal to the number of creature types among your creatures — in a multitype-heavy board, that's five or six mana off a single tap, which is exactly the engine that loops Staff of Domination for infinite mana and draws. The cost is real: she needs creatures already on board and dies to the same removal that ruins any mana dork, so she's a payoff piece, not a setup piece.

Selvala, Eager Trailblazer is a Commander card through and through — the ability only scales to broken levels when you have the board density that multiplayer games provide. In Legacy, Modern, or Pioneer constructed formats, a three-mana creature that taps for situational mana is laughably slow and fragile against interaction-dense one-on-one environments. Standard is technically legal at time of print but offers nothing remotely close to the creature-type diversity needed to make her worthwhile. Commander is the only context where Selvala, Eager Trailblazer earns a slot, and there specifically in typal or changeling shells where her tap threatens to generate five-plus mana as early as turn four.
