Sarinth Greatwurm card art
Sarinth Greatwurm lands and immediately starts converting land drops into free permanents off the top of your library — the engine is real and it snowballs fast. The cost is seven mana and a body that does nothing the turn it enters, which means it needs a deck built to cheat it out or generate enough mana to justify the wait. Kodama of the East Tree and Svella, Ice Shaper are the two commanders that make that cost feel negligible rather than punishing.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Svella, Ice Shaper

Svella, Ice Shaper

37.3% of decks · synergy 0.36

Sarinth Greatwurm appears in over 37% of Svella, Ice Shaper decks, and the reason is straightforward: Svella generates the mana to cast it and then rewards every subsequent land drop with a free permanent, which fuels even more Icy Manalith activations and turns the whole engine into a runaway value loop.

02
Roxanne, Starfall Savant

Roxanne, Starfall Savant

12.7% of decks · synergy 0.11

Roxanne, Starfall Savant creates Meteor tokens that tap for mana, so Sarinth Greatwurm slots in as a top-end payoff that converts those extra mana sources into cascading free permanents — the more meteors you have in play, the faster the wurm's trigger fires.

Format Analysis

FormatVerdict
commander
legacy
modern
pioneer

vintage
pauper
oathbreaker

Commander is where Sarinth Greatwurm does its best work — seven mana is reachable in a format defined by ramp, and a trigger that fires on every land drop scales absurdly in a 40-life multiplayer game with room to goldfish for several turns. In Modern and Pioneer it's a legal include but practically unplayable; control and combo decks have no interest in a seven-mana do-nothing-immediately creature, and aggressive shells obviously don't want it. Legacy and Vintage have the same answer, compounded by the fact that faster formats punish tapped-out seven-drops mercilessly. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander format where a dedicated land-and-ramp shell could theoretically deploy it, but the 20-life clock makes it marginal at best.

Price Context

Current price

$0.42 bulk tier

At $0.42, Sarinth Greatwurm is firmly bulk — low enough that picking up a copy is a no-brainer if the deck calls for it. Bulk rares with narrow synergy profiles tend to stay cheap, so there's no urgency pressure either way.
