Rumor Gatherer card art
Rumor Gatherer draws you a card whenever a nontoken creature enters under your control, then lets you loot again each time another one follows — sustained card advantage stapled to a creature that rewards the exact thing token and tribal decks are already doing. The cost is a three-mana 2/2 with no built-in protection, so it dies to a stiff breeze, but commanders like The Locust God and Nalia de'Arnise bury opponents in cards before anyone can stop it.

Best Commanders

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Nalia de'Arnise

Nalia de'Arnise

67.3% of decks · synergy 0.65

Nalia de'Arnise casts creature after creature off the top, and Rumor Gatherer turns each of those hits into a card drawn, compounding the advantage into a self-sustaining loop that's hard to outpace.

02
God-Eternal Oketra

God-Eternal Oketra

67.7% of decks · synergy 0.57

Every creature God-Eternal Oketra triggers makes a 4/4 Zombie token, and Rumor Gatherer sees each nontoken cast as a fresh loot trigger, smoothing the hand while Oketra's army snowballs.

03
Burakos, Party LeaderFolk Hero

Burakos, Party Leader // Folk Hero

57.8% of decks · synergy 0.55

Burakos, Party Leader // Folk Hero cares about filling out party, meaning nontoken creatures are hitting the board constantly — Rumor Gatherer converts that parade into consistent card flow that keeps the party assembled.

04
Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon

Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon

40.5% of decks · synergy 0.35

Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon floods the board with tokens on attacks, but the nontoken creatures you cast to enable those counters feed Rumor Gatherer's loot triggers, turning setup plays into incremental card advantage.

oathbreaker

Rumor Gatherer's home is Commander, where creature-heavy strategies — tokens, tribal, aristocrats — trigger it repeatedly in a single turn cycle and the slower pace gives it time to generate real card advantage. In Modern and Pioneer it's too slow and fragile for a format where three mana needs to immediately impact the board or protect itself, and the loot effect doesn't come close to competing with dedicated draw spells at that cost. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters for the same reason at a much higher baseline power level. Oathbreaker is the one 60-card-adjacent format where Rumor Gatherer could see play, specifically in creature-dense builds where the commander enables repeated ETB loops.

Price Context

Current price

$0.46 bulk tier

At $0.46, Rumor Gatherer is firmly bulk — easy to acquire as a throw-in or from a bargain bin without a second thought. Bulk rares that show up in 67% of a popular commander's decks tend to drift upward slowly, but this one is unlikely to spike meaningfully given how recently it was printed and how wide the supply is.
