Riptide Chimera returns an enchantment from your graveyard to your hand at the start of your upkeep — free recursion stapled to a 3/4 flier for three mana. The cost is real: you also return a land you control, which punishes you hard if you're not already enchantment-flooded enough to exploit the loop. In Tatsunari, Toad Rider builds and Sage of Hours packages that need the same enchantment hitting the battlefield repeatedly, that downside becomes the engine.

Tatsunari, Toad Rider
Tatsunari, Toad Rider triggers on enchantments entering the battlefield, so Riptide Chimera's built-in loop — bouncing an enchantment from the graveyard to hand, replaying it — generates repeated Frog Snake tokens and life drain triggers off a single piece.

Riptide Chimera sees essentially zero play in competitive constructed — the bounce-a-land cost is too punishing in Legacy and Vintage, where tempo is everything and a 3/4 flier isn't a payoff worth building around. Modern and Pioneer are similarly uninterested; enchantress-style loops there run cheaper, more focused pieces. Commander is where Riptide Chimera earns its slot, specifically in graveyard-enabled enchantment decks that want a single enchantment to trigger enter-the-battlefield effects multiple times per turn cycle. Outside of that niche, it's a bench card in every format it's legal in.

Price Context
Current price
$0.31 bulk tier
At $0.31, Riptide Chimera sits firmly in bulk territory — it's easy to pick up as a throw-in, and the price reflects its narrow application. Bulk enchantment-matters pieces like this tend to stay flat unless a new commander pushes the engine into wider play, so there's no urgency either way.
