Rimewind Taskmage taps or untaps any permanent for a single blue mana — as long as you control a snow permanent — which is an absurdly cheap rate for repeatable untap effects that can fuel infinite-mana loops or lock down opposing threats. The cost is real: snow permanents aren't free to build around, but in dedicated snow shells the condition is trivially met, and Illusionist's Bracers turns every activation into two, making the engine immediate and oppressive. Under Isu the Abominable, the Taskmage stops being a utility piece and starts being a central combo enabler.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Isu the Abominable
Isu the Abominable is a snow commander by design, so Rimewind Taskmage meets its condition automatically and immediately slots into infinite-mana loops that Isu's triggered ability rewards — it's in roughly 25% of Isu decks for exactly that reason.
Jorn, God of Winter
Jorn, God of Winter untaps snow permanents on attack, and Rimewind Taskmage both benefits from that untap and extends it to non-snow permanents, letting the deck generate mana or tap down blockers beyond what Jorn's trigger alone covers.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Rimewind Taskmage is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but it sees meaningful play in exactly one of those: Commander. In Pauper the snow-permanent condition is achievable in theory, but there's no payoff worth building around, and cheaper utility creatures crowd it out. Legacy and Vintage have access to the card but zero reason to register it — the effect doesn't compete at those power levels. Commander is where Rimewind Taskmage actually matters: the 100-card singleton format rewards redundant untap effects, snow synergies are a real archetype, and the low activation cost scales with any number of mana rocks or creatures you want to untap repeatedly.

$0.22 bulk tier
At $0.22, Rimewind Taskmage is bulk — it's a snow-tribal roleplayer from a set that didn't sell well, and supply has never dried up. For what it does inside dedicated snow Commander decks, that price is a bargain; don't expect it to move unless a pushed snow commander spikes demand.
