Retrofitter Foundry turns spare 1/1 tokens into 1/1 fliers or 4/4 constructs on a repeatable tap activation, giving artifact-token decks a mana sink that scales with board state. The setup cost is real — you need tokens already in play and a way to untap the Foundry — but Clock of Omens and Saheeli, the Gifted both solve that problem while doubling its output.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Saheeli, the Gifted
Saheeli, the Gifted's cost-reduction ability makes the Foundry's repeated activations nearly free, and the artifact-token synergies she demands are exactly what Retrofitter Foundry rewards — the 43% inclusion rate reflects how naturally they fit together.

Saheeli, Radiant Creator
Saheeli, Radiant Creator copies artifacts on her minus, meaning Retrofitter Foundry can appear in multiples; the Foundry feeds her token-payoff synergies while her copy effect lets you run the upgrade loop across redundant pieces.

Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy
Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy cares specifically about artifact tokens being created and modified, so Retrofitter Foundry's three-tier upgrade chain triggers him repeatedly and converts his Gremlin tokens into flying or artifact-creature payoffs.

Sai, Master Thopterist
Sai, Master Thopterist generates a Thopter every time you cast an artifact, and Retrofitter Foundry converts those 1/1s into 4/4 constructs when the board needs a threat — it's a clean one-two punch between the commander's token production and the Foundry's promotion engine.

Pia Nalaar, Consul of Revival
Pia Nalaar, Consul of Revival dumps artifact and creature tokens onto the board at a steady clip, and Retrofitter Foundry turns that wide board into a tall one without needing to cast additional spells.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Retrofitter Foundry lives — the long game, multiple opponents, and prevalence of artifact-token strategies in blue and red give it consistent work to do across a 100-card game. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but essentially invisible; the formats move too fast for a colorless artifact that needs a token board to already exist before it does anything. Oathbreaker shares Commander's multiplayer DNA and can support it in the same shells, but the smaller deck size and tighter win conditions mean it shows up only in dedicated artifact builds. Retrofitter Foundry is a Commander card, full stop.

Current pricing data isn't available in this listing, so check Scryfall or your preferred vendor for the latest number. Retrofitter Foundry has historically occupied the $3–8 range depending on reprint availability — it's not a casual throw-in, but it's not a wallet breaker either for the decks that genuinely want it.
