Reckless Assault card art
Reckless Assault turns any life payment into a repeatable ping machine — pay life, deal that much damage to any target, as many times as you can afford. The catch is Body of Knowledge levels of self-destruction if you run it recklessly, so it belongs only in decks that generate life as a resource, not decks that merely tolerate losing it.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

oathbreaker

Reckless Assault is a Commander card through and through — the format's higher life totals and life-gain synergies give it the runway it needs to matter, and 40 starting life means the math works out before you kill yourself. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but functionally unplayable; 20 life and faster clocks make the setup cost prohibitive before it ever pays off. Oathbreaker shares enough of Commander's DNA that a dedicated life-payment shell could exploit it there too, but the smaller deck size makes consistent synergy harder to assemble.

Price Context

Current price

$0.28 bulk tier

At $0.28, Reckless Assault is deep bulk — you're not paying a premium for power, you're paying for a niche engine that most decks can't support. That price is stable; there's no crossover appeal to push it higher, and the narrow home keeps casual demand low.
