Once Pyromancer Ascension goes active, every instant or sorcery you cast makes a free copy — that's a 2-for-1 on everything from a Lightning Bolt to a Regrowth, at zero additional mana. Two mana to set up, two spells already in the graveyard to charge it: the cost is trivial for what it returns.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Pyromancer Ascension sees its most meaningful play in Modern, where Izzet storm and spell-chain lists can reliably charge it in the first few turns and close out games by copying cantrips into critical mass. In Legacy and Vintage it's outpaced by faster, more redundant storm engines, so it rarely makes the cut. Commander is a sweet spot for casual to mid-power spell-slinger builds — the singleton format means you have plenty of targets to copy, and Pyromancer Ascension punishes any turn where opponents leave you alone to untap with it active.

Current price
$0.25 bulk tier
At $0.25, Pyromancer Ascension is deep bulk — cheap enough to throw into any spell-heavy list without a second thought. Demand isn't high enough to push the price up, so it should stay in this range indefinitely.
