Planar Incision card art
Planar Incision exiles a nonland permanent you control until your next end step — a one-mana instant that turns any enters-the-battlefield trigger into a repeatable resource. Abdel Adrian, Gorion's Ward and Vannifar, Evolved Enigma both run it at high rates because the bounce effect is the engine, not a side effect.

Vannifar, Evolved Enigma

Vannifar, Evolved Enigma

58.8% of decks · synergy 0.57

Vannifar, Evolved Enigma transforms each morph or disguise into whatever it needs to be, and Planar Incision lets her re-disguise a creature mid-combat or at instant speed to trigger her ability again without waiting for a natural turn cycle.

02
Cynette, Jelly Drover

Cynette, Jelly Drover

57.1% of decks · synergy 0.52

Cynette, Jelly Drover cares about Food tokens and artifacts entering the battlefield, so Planar Incision on any relevant permanent generates an extra trigger loop for a single mana.

03
Abdel Adrian, Gorion's WardCandlekeep Sage

Abdel Adrian, Gorion's Ward // Candlekeep Sage

50.0% of decks · synergy 0.47

Abdel Adrian, Gorion's Ward exiles your own permanents as a feature, and Planar Incision stacks on top of that gameplan — blinking Abdel himself or any high-value ETB creature for one mana at instant speed.

04
Pir, Imaginative RascalToothy, Imaginary Friend

Pir, Imaginative Rascal // Toothy, Imaginary Friend

41.3% of decks · synergy 0.39

Pir, Imaginative Rascal // Toothy, Imaginary Friend benefits every time Toothy leaves and re-enters the battlefield, and Planar Incision is one of the cheapest ways to spike that trigger and cash in counters.

05
Loot, the Pathfinder

Loot, the Pathfinder

34.7% of decks · synergy 0.33

Loot, the Pathfinder cares about permanents entering from exile, so Planar Incision converts any creature into a free exile trigger that feeds Loot's ability the following turn.

oathbreaker

Planar Incision is legal in every major format and its real home is Commander, where one-mana instant-speed blink effects scale with how many ETB triggers a deck is already running. In Pauper, the effect is costed fairly and sees fringe play in blink shells, though it competes with other common flicker options. In Modern and Pioneer, the effect is too narrow without a dedicated synergy deck built around it — Planar Incision doesn't slot into fair midrange the way a removal spell would. Legacy and Vintage don't have meaningful homes for it; the tempo cost of returning your own permanent rarely clears the bar those formats demand. Stick to Commander as the correct context for this card.

Price Context

Current price

$0.39 bulk tier

At $0.39, Planar Incision sits firmly in bulk territory and is easy to pick up in any quantity without a second thought. The price reflects its niche role — high demand within dedicated ETB decks, low demand everywhere else — and there's no reason to expect it to move significantly in either direction.
