Commander is where Abdel Adrian, Gorion's Ward lives — the format's multiplayer boards give the exile-and-return trigger genuine impact, and the singleton rule means the flicker synergies he enables are spread across enough support pieces to run consistently. He's legal in Legacy and Vintage as well, but a six-mana creature that requires an exit trigger to do anything meaningful has no competitive application in either format; the text box that reads like an engine in EDH reads like a liability in a fast, two-player environment. Oathbreaker is the one other format worth noting — as a signature spell target or companion piece to a planeswalker commander, his token generation on entry has some appeal in a lower-power setting, though his ceiling there is lower than in full Commander.
