Overblaze doubles all damage a source deals for a turn — stapled onto a Zap that can copy itself with splice, the ceiling is enormous whenever you have a big damage event already in motion. It's a do-nothing card without a live target, but in the right shell it converts one attack or one ability into a one-shot.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Overblaze actually lives. Doubling the damage from a commander with a high power stat, a Comet Storm at lethal range, or a Toralf, God of Fury trigger chain can close out multiple players at once, and the splice onto arcane clause means a single copy can theoretically ride several spells in the same turn. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but irrelevant — the formats move too fast for a three-mana damage doubler with no immediate board impact. Modern has more redundancy in the damage-doubling space and faster closing mechanisms, so Overblaze sits at the fringe there too. Oathbreaker is the one other format where it's worth a second look, since the compressed game state rewards explosive single-turn damage spikes.

Price Context
Current price
$0.39 bulk tier
At $0.39, Overblaze is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a box rather than order. The price reflects low demand outside niche arcane-splice or damage-doubling Commander builds, and there's no obvious pressure to push it higher.
