Nissa, Voice of Zendikar card art
Nissa, Voice of Zendikar lands on turn three, immediately puts a 0/1 Plant token into play, and threatens to pump your whole board or draw three cards within a turn cycle — that's an outsized return on a three-mana planeswalker. Avid Reclaimer gives her a functional rate comparison, but Nissa laps it by protecting herself with chump blockers and scaling into a late-game anthem; Carth the Lion decks run her precisely because that loyalty clock moves fast enough to ult in two activations.

In Commander, Nissa, Voice of Zendikar earns her slot in any green deck that wants a low-cost planeswalker with immediate board presence — she protects herself, buffs go-wide strategies, and ultimates faster than most three-mana walkers. In Pioneer and Modern, she sees occasional fringe play in token-based midrange shells, but competes with a deep field of planeswalkers at the same cost and rarely makes the cut in top-tier lists. Legacy and Vintage are simply too fast for a three-mana do-nothing-at-instant-speed threat to matter. Oathbreaker is arguably her sweetest non-Commander home, where she can serve as the planeswalker commander herself and the signature spell restriction actually narrows the build in interesting ways.
