Nature's Lore is a two-mana green staple that fetches any Forest — including shocklands and duals — untapped, making it one of the cleanest pieces of acceleration in Commander. The one real trade-off: it only works in decks with at least a Forest subtype in the land base, which means colorless or non-green commanders like Zimone, Infinite Analyst won't touch it.
Where It Shines
Where the extra mana on turn one matters most
Big-mana shells like The Ur-Dragon
The Ur-Dragon's nine-mana eminence cost demands you hit every land drop and accelerate early; Nature's Lore fetching a Stomping Ground or Bayou untapped on turn two is exactly the kind of tempo that makes a five-color shell functional rather than clunky.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Nature's Lore does its best work — 100-card singleton means you want every redundant copy of this effect you can find, and the untapped Forest fetch synergizes directly with shocklands and original duals that see heavy play at that table. In Pauper it's legal and occasionally shows up in Turbo Fog or landfall shells that need cheap, reliable acceleration at common. Legacy and Vintage have access to it, but those formats run faster mana than a sorcery-speed land fetch can compete with, so Nature's Lore sits on the sidelines there. It's not legal in Modern, Pioneer, or Standard.
