Mythos of Illuna card art
Mythos of Illuna copies any permanent on the battlefield — no mana cost, no restrictions — and if you paid with three colors, you get a token copy instead of stealing the original, which matters less than it sounds when you're duplicating an opponent's Rhystic Study or your own combo piece. Five mana is the real ask, but Dualcaster Mage turns that cost into a feature by copying the spell itself and producing two permanents from one card. Run it in Illuna, Apex of Wishes shells specifically — everywhere else it's a luxury.

Illuna, Apex of Wishes

Illuna, Apex of Wishes

29.6% of decks · synergy 0.28

Illuna, Apex of Wishes demands permanents for its mutate trigger, and Mythos of Illuna is one of the few spells that produces a permanent copy of whatever is most threatening on board, feeding the engine while pulling ahead on value. The name overlap isn't cosmetic — Illuna, Apex of Wishes decks are built to abuse high-impact permanents, and Mythos of Illuna is the cleanest way to duplicate one mid-game.

02
Riku of Two Reflections

Riku of Two Reflections

28.1% of decks · synergy 0.27

Riku of Two Reflections copies instants and sorceries for two mana, so Mythos of Illuna becomes a three-for-one: the original effect, a Riku copy of the spell, and two permanent tokens on the stack resolving in sequence. That's the engine Riku of Two Reflections is hunting for — high-ceiling sorceries that scale absurdly when doubled.

In Commander, Mythos of Illuna occupies a narrow but real niche: it's the best answer to a problem permanent you can't remove but can copy, and it doubles as a combo enabler in Dualcaster Mage lines. Outside of Commander, it's legal in Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, and Vintage, but five mana for a copy effect is almost never competitive in those formats — faster, cheaper interaction dominates before Mythos of Illuna can resolve. Pioneer and Modern players will not find a reliable home for it given the speed of those formats. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander 60-card-adjacent format where it shows up occasionally, specifically in Temur-color shells that can hit five mana and want high-impact one-offs.

Pricing data for Mythos of Illuna isn't available in the current index, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for the live number before buying. Given its narrow competitive application and Commander-specific demand, it has historically sat in the bulk-rare range — worth grabbing a copy if you're building the right deck, not worth speculating on.
