Myr Matrix is a five-mana, indestructible token factory that single-handedly sustains a Myr board through wraths and attrition — the protection clause alone justifies the slot. Pair it with Intruder Alarm and any tap outlet and it generates unlimited Myr; in Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch decks specifically, that translates directly into an unbounded untap engine.

Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch
Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch runs Myr Matrix in over half of all builds because the Matrix solves Urtet's core problem: keeping a board of Myr alive long enough to trigger the untap chain. Indestructible tokens that rebuild after a wrath are exactly what a five-color Myr engine needs to go off consistently.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Myr Matrix is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but its real home is Commander — five mana for a slow token generator is too expensive and too low-impact for competitive Legacy or Vintage, and Modern has enough efficient artifact hate to punish a five-drop that doesn't win immediately. In Commander, the 100-card singleton format rewards redundancy and inevitability, and Myr Matrix provides both: it replaces itself each turn, survives most board wipes via indestructibility, and combos into game-ending lines at a pace the format can support. Oathbreaker is a legal home but the faster average game speed makes it a fringe inclusion outside of dedicated Myr shells.

Cheaper options that do most of the same work
There is no true budget replacement for Myr Matrix — its indestructibility clause is unique among repeatable Myr producers and is the core reason it's played. Myr Turbine is the closest analogue at a fraction of the price, producing one Myr per turn without the protection, but losing the indestructibility means your token engine dies to the same wraths your army does.
Price Context
Current price
$9.29 mid tier
At $9.29, Myr Matrix sits in the mid tier — expensive enough to feel like a deliberate include, cheap enough that it's accessible for most budgets. It's a casual staple with a narrow demand ceiling, so the price is stable rather than climbing; buy it when you need it, not as a spec.
