Mirror of the Forebears enters the battlefield, you name a creature type, and for two mana it becomes a copy of any creature you control that shares that type — a repeatable clone effect on an artifact that costs only one mana to cast. In Magda, Brazen Outlaw builds specifically, that means a second Magda trigger engine for two mana at instant speed, which is an absurd rate for what it does.

Magda, Brazen Outlaw
Mirror of the Forebears is a staple in Magda, Brazen Outlaw decks because copying Magda herself doubles the Treasure output from tapped Dwarves, accelerating the five-Treasure tutor condition by a full turn cycle or more.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Mirror of the Forebears is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but the honest answer is that Commander is the only format where it sees meaningful play. In Legacy and Vintage, a one-mana artifact with a two-mana activation is too slow and too conditional when clone effects have to compete against the raw power of those formats' threat density. Commander is where Mirror of the Forebears earns its slot — tribal decks with a critical creature they want to double get a one-drop that sits on board and threatens a copy every turn, and the artifact type means it dodges creature removal. Oathbreaker could support it in the right signature-spell shell, but the playerbase is small enough that inclusion data there is noise.
