Mine Worker is a one-mana 1/1 with tap abilities that matters almost exclusively as a combo piece — on its own it does nothing threatening. In dedicated life-gain shells, particularly alongside Heliod, Sun-Crowned, it becomes a repeatable engine that can go infinite with the right support.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Mine Worker sees essentially zero competitive play in Legacy, Modern, or Pioneer — the rate is too low and the payoff too conditional for those formats' speed. In Pauper it's a legal one-drop but rarely a priority outside fringe combo builds. Commander is where Mine Worker finds its actual home: the format's slower clock and life-gain synergy density give it the time and context to become a functional engine piece.

$0.05 bulk tier
At $0.05, Mine Worker is deep bulk — you'll find it in common boxes or throw-in trades without a second thought. Bulk commons don't appreciate unless a new combo or commander dramatically spikes demand, so buy it for the deck slot, not the binder.
