Maze's Mantle gives any creature hexproof for two mana plus a tap, which is narrow enough that most decks won't bother. The ceiling is protecting a key combo piece or commander, but the activation cost being tied to the permanent itself makes it clunky compared to instant-speed hexproof options.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Maze's Mantle sees essentially no competitive play across any format — Legacy, Modern, and Vintage all have instant-speed hexproof equipment and spells that do this job without the tap-down drawback. In Commander, the case is marginally better: protecting a voltron commander or a critical combo creature from a targeted removal spell has real value, and the two-mana equip is reasonable. Even there, Maze's Mantle competes against Swiftfoot Boots and Diplomatic Immunity, both of which provide persistent hexproof rather than a once-per-turn activation. Pauper is the one format where budget constraints make it worth a look, though even at that level there are cleaner options.

$0.13 bulk tier
At $0.13, Maze's Mantle is deep bulk — the kind of card you find in a dollar box without looking. Don't expect the price to move; there's no competitive demand pulling it anywhere.
