Marjhan is a 8/8 sea creature that blocks fliers and can sacrifice them for damage, but the upkeep cost — sacrificing a creature if you don't control an Island — makes it nearly unplayable outside dedicated blue shells. Jon Irenicus, Shattered One is the clearest home, offloading donated creatures as fodder to keep Marjhan fed without spending your own resources.

Marjhan is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but sees essentially no competitive play in any of them. In Commander it occupies a narrow niche in mono-blue or heavy-blue creature-sacrifice builds where the Island upkeep tax is trivially met and donated or recurred creatures cover the sacrifice outlet. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a nine-mana creature with conditional upkeep when faster, cheaper threats exist. Oathbreaker shares Commander's casual context but the smaller deck size and faster games make Marjhan's setup cost even harder to justify.
