Life's Legacy turns a large creature into a full hand refill for two mana — sacrifice a 10/10 and you draw ten cards at instant-speed adjacent sorcery cost. The catch is the sacrifice, which is a real price, but in decks running Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis or any commander that makes enormous creatures incidentally, it's rarely a loss.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis
Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis is an 8/8 that costs nothing but creatures and cards in the graveyard, which means sacrificing it to Life's Legacy draws eight cards and reloads the graveyard engine in one motion — the 'cost' is a free creature you can recast next turn.

Yargle and Multani
Yargle and Multani is a 21/4, so Life's Legacy off it draws twenty-one cards with zero additional setup — it's one of the most explosive single-card draw payoffs in the format.

Henzie "Toolbox" Torre
Henzie "Toolbox" Torre blinks big creatures into play at reduced cost, and Life's Legacy cashes in any of those blitzed threats for a full hand before they'd disappear anyway, turning a tempo play into a card-advantage engine.

Gor Muldrak, Amphinologist
Gor Muldrak, Amphinologist forces opponents to generate 3/3 Salamander tokens, but the deck also needs a way to exploit its own large bodies — Life's Legacy converts those into draw while keeping the board pressure on others.

Selvala, Heart of the Wilds
Selvala, Heart of the Wilds rewards the biggest creature on the battlefield with mana and draw, and Life's Legacy turns that same creature into a second draw spike before an opponent can answer it.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| commander | legal |

| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |

| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Life's Legacy is a Commander card through and through — the power scales directly with how large your creatures get, and Commander is the format where 10/10s and larger are routine. In competitive EDH it competes with Momentous Fall and Greater Good for the same slot, usually losing to Greater Good on redundancy and mana efficiency, but it's a real consideration in any green deck that regularly fields power-6-or-higher creatures. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's legal but functionally irrelevant — those formats can't reliably land a creature worth sacrificing and survive the tempo loss of a sorcery-speed draw spell that requires a body. Oathbreaker is the only other format where it occasionally shows up, again in large-creature green shells.

Budget Alternatives
Cheaper options that do most of the same work
Momentous Fall is the closest functional replacement — it gains life on top of the draw and can be cast at instant speed, though it runs about twice the price. If budget is the constraint, Greater Good costs less and draws more over a game despite the discard requirement, making it the stronger long-term pick; Rishkar's Expertise is another option that also casts a free spell but tops out at six power for its draw ceiling.
Price Context
Current price
$6.21 mid tier
At $6.21, Life's Legacy sits in the mid tier — not a budget pickup, but not a financial commitment either. It's a stable role-player price; demand is steady enough from Commander that it won't crater, but it's not scarce enough to trend upward.
