Momentous Fall pays four mana at instant speed to convert a large creature into a refueled hand and a padded life total — the effect is enormous, and the only real cost is having a big creature to sacrifice. Against Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis, whose self-mill fuels convoke and delve rather than a conventional hand, this is one of the few cards that actually converts graveyard momentum into cards in hand.

Momentous Fall is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but Commander is the only format where it sees meaningful play. In Modern and Legacy, four mana at instant speed for a card-draw effect — even a large one — is too slow when the creature you're sacrificing is already under threat of counterspells and faster interaction. Commander is where the math changes: games go longer, creatures get enormous, and the ability to respond to a board wipe or targeted removal by converting a creature into eight-plus cards and life before it dies is genuinely back-breaking. Oathbreaker can support it in the right planeswalker shell, but the density of oversized creatures simply isn't there the way it is in Commander.
