Life and Limb turns every Saproling and Forest into a dual-type permanent, which sounds symmetrical until you realize it enables infinite landfall or sacrifice loops that end the game on the spot. The cost is real — a board wipe that hits lands also hits your Saprolings, and any opponent's land destruction becomes creature removal — but in the right shell, that vulnerability is either irrelevant or part of the plan. Sporemound and Yedora, Grave Gardener are the two reasons this card exists in Commander.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Yedora, Grave Gardener
Yedora, Grave Gardener turns every nontoken creature death into a Forest entering the battlefield, and Life and Limb makes every one of those Forests a Saproling — which means creature deaths loop back into more creatures, generating an engine that can run indefinitely with a free sacrifice outlet in play.

Slimefoot, the Stowaway
Slimefoot, the Stowaway drains opponents whenever a Saproling dies, and Life and Limb makes every Forest on the battlefield a potential sacrifice target — suddenly you have a much larger pool of bodies to feed a sac outlet and convert into life loss.

Shroofus Sproutsire
Shroofus Sproutsire cares deeply about Fungi and Saprolings, and Life and Limb dramatically expands the creature count available at any given moment by converting your land base into a Saproling army waiting to be leveraged.

Ghave, Guru of Spores
Ghave, Guru of Spores generates and consumes Saprolings as currency, and Life and Limb lets land drops feed directly into that economy — any Forest entering play is another body Ghave can immediately spend for counters or sacrifice effects.

Life and Limb is a Commander card through and through — the combo payoffs it enables require specific pieces across a 100-card singleton deck, which is exactly where tutors and redundancy make the engine consistent enough to threaten. In Legacy and Vintage, it's technically legal but competes with formats built around interaction on turns one and two, and a four-mana enchantment that does nothing until other pieces arrive gets answered before it matters. Commander is the only format where the card routinely closes games, whether through the Sporemound landfall loop, the Yedora, Grave Gardener recursion engine, or any sacrifice outlet that turns Forests into death triggers at scale.

Current price
$1.25 cheap tier
At $1.25, Life and Limb sits in the sweet spot where it's cheap enough to include speculatively and powerful enough to anchor a game-winning combo. The price reflects genuine demand from Saproling and Fungi builds without the spike that comes from crossover appeal — it's a niche card, but within that niche it's nearly mandatory.
