Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin snowballs fast — every attack adds a +1/+1 counter and spawns that many Goblin tokens, so a single combat step can turn a 2/2 into a 4/4 that made four bodies. The cost is real: three mana, no haste, and no evasion means he needs a turn of setup, which makes him a target before he ever swings — but commanders like Najeela, the Blade-Blossom and General Kreat, the Boltbringer show exactly how broken he gets once that attack trigger fires even once.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

General Kreat, the Boltbringer
General Kreat, the Boltbringer appears in over 77% of decklists alongside Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin because Kreat rewards attacking with multiple creatures, and Krenko's exponentially growing token army is exactly the kind of wide board that floods combat to trigger Kreat's damage output repeatedly.

Muxus, Goblin Grandee
Muxus, Goblin Grandee is the premier Goblin payoff commander, and Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin slots in as one of the best hit off a Muxus activation — landing him mid-combat or off a cheat effect means the token engine starts churning the same turn he arrives.

Mishra, Claimed by Gix
Mishra, Claimed by Gix wants an aggressive creature base that attacks repeatedly, and Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin delivers both a self-scaling threat and a growing army to feed Mishra's drain-and-drain game plan every combat.

Wort, Boggart Auntie
Wort, Boggart Auntie is the dedicated Goblin tribal commander, and Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin is one of its highest-synergy inclusions — the token flood Krenko generates gives Wort more Goblins to recur and more bodies to throw at opponents each turn.

Wulfgar of Icewind Dale
Wulfgar of Icewind Dale doubles attack triggers, which turns Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin's already-scaling ability into something absurd — one attack step under Wulfgar means double the counters and double the tokens, compounding exponentially within a single game.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |

| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin does his best work — the longer game gives him time to accumulate counters and tokens, and tribal synergies from Goblin-heavy builds amplify every attack trigger into a board-defining event. In Modern and Pioneer, he's legal but rarely sees serious play; three mana for a creature with no immediate impact is tough to justify in formats where the game is often decided by turn four. Legacy and Vintage have the raw speed to abuse haste enablers and combat tricks around him, but those formats have better token engines available and he doesn't crack competitive lists there either. Oathbreaker is a natural home given the lower starting life totals and the ability to pair him with a Goblin-enabling instant or sorcery as the signature spell.
