Keeper of Fables card art
Keeper of Fables turns every non-Human creature combat hit into a card, which is exactly the gas engine that green creature decks are starving for by turn five. The cost is a 3/4 body for five mana — slow enough that it's a liability in faster metas, but Arahbo, Roar of the World runs enough fat cats to make that payoff consistent.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Arahbo, Roar of the World

Arahbo, Roar of the World

64.2% of decks · synergy 0.60

Arahbo, Roar of the World pumps a Cat before combat every turn, making it trivially easy to push through damage and trigger Keeper of Fables — the deck is already full of non-Human Cats, so the card-draw fires constantly.

03
Ruxa, Patient Professor

Ruxa, Patient Professor

39.7% of decks · synergy 0.37

Ruxa, Patient Professor builds around creatures with no abilities, and Keeper of Fables slots in as a payoff that rewards the wide, vanilla-beater attacks that Ruxa encourages — drawing cards off the creatures opponents are inclined to ignore.

04
Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist

Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist

34.1% of decks · synergy 0.30

Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist locks down blockers so attacks land cleanly, and Keeper of Fables converts each of those uncontested hits into cards, turning Mirri's combat control into a repeatable draw engine.

05
Nikya of the Old Ways

Nikya of the Old Ways

28.2% of decks · synergy 0.27

Nikya of the Old Ways runs a creature-dense, non-Human roster by design, and Keeper of Fables rewards swinging with the big green bodies Nikya ramps out — drawing into more threats off the combat damage that creature-only decks are already dealing.

Keeper of Fables is a Commander card through and through — the payoff requires a board of non-Human attackers and multiple combat steps, which only the 100-card singleton format reliably supplies. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's unplayable competitively; five mana for a conditional draw trigger is miles behind what those formats demand, and the effect doesn't close games. Oathbreaker can support it in the right creature build, but the smaller starting life totals compress the game too fast for a five-drop value engine to take over. Commander is the only context where Keeper of Fables does what it promises.

Price Context

Current price

$0.27 bulk tier

At $0.27, Keeper of Fables is bulk — pick it up in any common/uncommon box or throw it in a cart order as a free slot. Demand is narrow enough that the price is unlikely to move unless a high-profile Cat or non-Human tribal commander spikes its inclusion rate.
