Impromptu Raid

Enchantment

{2}{R/G}: Reveal the top card of your library. If it isn't a creature card, put it into your graveyard. Otherwise, put that card onto the battlefield. That creature gains haste. Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step.

Impromptu Raid card art
Impromptu Raid puts a free creature into play at instant speed every turn — the cost is that it goes to the graveyard at end step, which is a liability in fair decks and an engine trigger in unfair ones. Pair it with Mortuary and the creature never actually leaves, turning a drawback into an infinite loop.

Format Analysis

oathbreaker

Impromptu Raid is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it sees essentially zero play outside Commander — the four-mana enchantment asking you to build around a graveyard loop is far too slow and narrow for Legacy or Vintage, where that mana buys faster answers. In Commander, it earns a real role as a combo enabler: the end-step sacrifice feeds graveyard synergies, and the right partner card collapses it into an infinite loop that wins on the spot. Outside dedicated combo or reanimator shells, the card is too inconsistent to justify the slot.

Price Context

Current price

$0.36 bulk tier

At $0.36, Impromptu Raid is deep bulk — cheap enough to grab without thought if the combo line fits your deck. It's a narrow card with a small audience, so don't expect the price to move meaningfully in either direction.
