Burning-Tree Emissary is a bulk staple in Pauper, where the combo potential with multiple copies in hand generates explosive turn-two or three sequences that can flood the board before most decks respond. In Modern and Legacy it sees fringe play in Gruul stompy shells that want to chain creatures into a large Reckless Bushwhacker or similar payoff. Commander is where Burning-Tree Emissary earns the most consistent slots — any commander that rewards repeated creature casts, enters-the-battlefield triggers, or sacrifice fodder treats it as a free enabler rather than a real card investment. Pioneer supports it but the format's density of two-drop threats means it rarely outcompetes on raw power outside dedicated combo lists.
