Hoard Hauler card art
Hoard Hauler swings in, steals a treasure off every creature it connects with, and turns a single combat step into a resource engine that compounds each turn. The cost is real — you need it to connect, which means haste enablers or evasion support — but in the right shell, especially alongside Balthier and Fran and their Treasure synergies, Hoard Hauler pulls well above its weight. Pair it with Time Sieve and enough hits and you're converting combat damage directly into extra turns.

Best Commanders

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Balthier and Fran

Balthier and Fran

71.7% of decks · synergy 0.70

Balthier and Fran is the natural home — Hoard Hauler's Treasure generation feeds directly into the commander's artifact-matters triggers, and the deck's existing suite of evasion and combat support makes connecting consistently achievable.

02
Kolodin, Triumph Caster

Kolodin, Triumph Caster

64.3% of decks · synergy 0.63

Kolodin, Triumph Caster rewards attacking with artifacts, so Hoard Hauler slots in as both a combat threat and a Treasure factory that keeps the engine fueled every turn.

03
Vazi, Keen Negotiator

Vazi, Keen Negotiator

37.7% of decks · synergy 0.37

Vazi, Keen Negotiator distributes counters and resources across the table, and Hoard Hauler's per-creature Treasure production gives you the political currency to keep Vazi's deals profitable regardless of what opponents develop.

04
Edward Kenway

Edward Kenway

32.7% of decks · synergy 0.31

Edward Kenway runs a pirate-forward, combat-aggressive gameplan, and Hoard Hauler is exactly the kind of creature that turns a successful swing into a snowballing advantage — more Treasures, more fuel, more threats.

05
Samut, the Driving Force

Samut, the Driving Force

18.2% of decks · synergy 0.18

Samut, the Driving Force grants haste to your creatures, which is the one thing Hoard Hauler needs most — removing the vulnerability window means you're threatening Treasure generation the same turn it lands.

Hoard Hauler is a Commander card through and through — the payoff is cumulative, dependent on repeated combat, and best appreciated in a longer game where each Treasure compounds into something backbreaking. In competitive formats like Modern, Pioneer, or Legacy, a four-mana creature that does nothing until it attacks is too slow and too easy to answer before it generates value. Commander is where the math works: hit two or three creatures in a single swing, chain into Time Sieve with enough Treasures, and the game ends. Outside of Commander, Hoard Hauler is a novelty.
