Guild Artisan card art
Guild Artisan enters with a Gold token in hand and scales its treasure production every time you complete a quest — the on-board value is immediate and repeatable. The cost is that the quest mechanic asks you to build around specific game actions, which means Guild Artisan earns its slot in dedicated treasure shells like Time Sieve combo or Wyll, Blade of Frontiers // Sword Coast Sailor but sits idle in generic goodstuff piles.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Wyll, Blade of FrontiersSword Coast Sailor

Wyll, Blade of Frontiers // Sword Coast Sailor

41.4% of decks · synergy 0.40

Wyll, Blade of Frontiers // Sword Coast Sailor triggers off dice rolls, and Guild Artisan's quest conditions align cleanly with the aggressive, resource-generating gameplan that shell runs — every completed quest pushes the treasure count that fuels Wyll's explosive turns.

02
Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer

Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer

24.9% of decks · synergy 0.22

Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer decks want treasure as supplemental mana to cast stolen spells, and Guild Artisan provides a repeatable supply that doesn't require the commander to connect every combat step.

03
Kediss, Emberclaw FamiliarMalcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator

Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar // Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator

20.2% of decks · synergy 0.19

Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator generates treasure on combat damage, and Guild Artisan layers on top as a secondary source — together they accelerate the kind of mana-positive turns that Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar // Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator needs to close games quickly.

04
Knuckles the Echidna

Knuckles the Echidna

21.0% of decks · synergy 0.18

Knuckles the Echidna rewards aggressive, combat-focused play, and Guild Artisan's treasure generation converts that aggression into mana, letting the deck reinvest damage dealt into bigger threats on subsequent turns.

05
Jolene, the Plunder Queen

Jolene, the Plunder Queen

16.8% of decks · synergy 0.16

Jolene, the Plunder Queen turns treasure density into a win condition, so Guild Artisan's steady quest-based output feeds directly into the counters-on-Jolene engine that the deck is built to maximize.

Guild Artisan is a Commander card through and through — the quest mechanic and gold token payoff are calibrated for the longer, multiplayer game where you have time to complete objectives and opponents to interact with. In Legacy and Vintage, where it's technically legal, it's a non-starter: a two-mana do-nothing-immediately creature has no business competing with the speed of those formats. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander venue where Guild Artisan could see fringe play in a treasure-themed build, though the smaller deck size makes the quest conditions harder to engineer consistently. The bottom line is that Guild Artisan is a 99-card Commander piece, full stop.
