Ghostly Possession gives the enchanted creature flying and prevents all combat damage it would deal and receive — effectively locking a threat out of combat while keeping it alive as a blocker deterrent. It's a niche aura that trades tempo for a very specific effect, and most removal suites handle the same problem more efficiently.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Ghostly Possession fills a narrow role — neutralizing a single dangerous creature for as long as the aura sticks — but dedicated enchantress decks with Zur the Enchanter or Bruna, Light of Alabaster are where it actually earns a slot. In Pauper it's legal and the combat-lock effect is more meaningful at common power levels, though white removal at common rarely needs this much setup. Legacy and Vintage have far more efficient answers to any single threat, so Ghostly Possession simply doesn't compete there. Across all formats, the card is a role-player at best, relevant only when the enchantment subtype itself is the point.

Price Context
Current price
$0.04 bulk tier
At $0.04, Ghostly Possession is deep bulk — you'll find copies in common boxes or bundled into cheap lots without thinking twice. That price accurately reflects its narrow application; there's no scenario where demand pushes it meaningfully higher.
