Forced March kills every creature on the board whose mana value matches the X you pay — a surgical or sweeping board wipe depending on how much mana you sink in. The catch is that it only hits one mana value per cast, so against a diverse board you're choosing targets, not clearing the table.

Commander is where Forced March earns its slot, specifically in decks that can reliably populate the board with creatures of a single mana value — token generators, tribal builds, or anything running Training Grounds or cost-reduction engines. The selective nature is a feature there: pay X equal to your opponents' biggest threats, leave your own board intact. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but wildly outclassed by Toxic Deluge and Damnation, which don't require you to guess mana values. Oathbreaker can find niche uses for it in the same token-tribal shells that want it in Commander.

Price Context
Current price
$0.98 bulk tier
At $0.98, Forced March sits at the top of bulk pricing — cheap enough to throw in a deck without hesitation, but not so cheap it's a throwaway. The narrow design keeps demand low, so don't expect the price to move unless a new commander pushes the single-mana-value archetype into the spotlight.
