Fool's Demise attaches to any creature and turns every subsequent death into a free body-swap — your enchanted creature dies, you take the next one that hits the graveyard, and the Aura follows it. The five-mana cost is real, but in Minn, Wily Illusionist builds that want Illusions dying on purpose, or Eriette, the Beguiler shells that weaponize Auras for passive drain, it earns that slot by generating permanent card advantage every time removal gets thrown.

Eriette, the Beguiler
Fool's Demise is exactly the kind of Aura Eriette, the Beguiler prizes — it drains opponents each upkeep while enchanted, and when the creature it's on dies, it migrates to a new target and keeps the engine running without ever leaving the battlefield.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Fool's Demise is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it only shows up in Commander with any regularity. Five mana for a conditional reanimation loop is far too slow for Legacy or Vintage, where threats close games before the Aura ever resolves. Modern has no real home for it either — the payoff requires a creature-heavy graveyard environment and a longer game clock than the format typically provides. Commander is the one place where five mana is unremarkable, opponents are always developing threats worth stealing, and the recursive body-swap loop can snowball across a full table.

$0.34 bulk tier
At $0.34, Fool's Demise sits firmly in bulk territory — easy to pick up as a throw-in or from a bargain bin. Bulk enchantments with niche combo applications tend to stay flat unless a high-profile commander pushes demand, so treat it as a cheap include rather than anything to speculate on.
