Faultgrinder destroys a land when it enters and again when it attacks — meaningful land disruption stapled to a 4/4 body for seven mana. That cost is the problem: seven mana is too slow in every format where land destruction is actually relevant.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|

| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |

In Commander, Faultgrinder is a fringe inclusion in dedicated land-destruction or resource-denial decks — the seven-mana cost is steep, but the repeatable attack trigger at least provides ongoing value across a four-player table. In Legacy and Vintage, it is unplayable; those formats end before seven mana resolves anything meaningful, and far more efficient land hate exists. Pauper is where Faultgrinder technically has a home on paper, since land destruction is a recognized strategy there and common-card density limits competition — though even in that format, the cost is a liability. For Commander specifically, treat it as a budget placeholder that gets cut the moment you acquire Avalanche Riders or Strip Mine.

Price Context
Current price
$0.16 bulk tier
At $0.16, Faultgrinder is deep bulk — the kind of card that ends up in a common box at a card shop and never gets more expensive. That price is stable because demand is low and copies are plentiful; don't expect any upward movement.
