Fall of Gil-galad puts a Lore counter on itself each turn and delivers a relevant effect at each chapter — scrying, draining life, and finally reanimating a legendary creature — for four mana in blue-black. The cost is time: three full turns to complete, which means it does nothing the turn you cast it and folds to enchantment removal before the payoff.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Sigurd, Jarl of Ravensthorpe
Sigurd, Jarl of Ravensthorpe rewards playing Sagas, and Fall of Gil-galad hits every mark — the scry feeds his card selection gameplan, the life drain accumulates pressure, and the reanimation on chapter three lines up with the legendary creatures his strategy is already stacking.

Garnet, Princess of Alexandria
Garnet, Princess of Alexandria cares about Sagas as a card type, so Fall of Gil-galad slots in as a value engine that also happens to reanimate the powerful legendary creatures her decks tend to run.

Elrond, Master of Healing
Elrond, Master of Healing triggers off legendary spells and permanents, and the reanimation chapter of Fall of Gil-galad puts a legendary creature directly onto the battlefield — netting an Elrond trigger without casting anything.

Galadriel of Lothlórien
Galadriel of Lothlórien uses Saga chapter completions to proliferate her ring-tempting counters, and Fall of Gil-galad contributes three separate chapter triggers across the game while also scrying to smooth her draws.

In Commander, Fall of Gil-galad earns its slot in Saga-matters decks and legendary-matters builds where the reanimation chapter hits a high-value target — outside those archetypes it's too slow to compete with purpose-built reanimation spells. Legacy and Vintage have no use for a four-mana enchantment that takes three turns to resolve when Entomb plus Reanimate does the job for two mana on turn one. Modern is the only non-rotating 60-card format where you might construct a Saga-synergy shell around it, but the competition from faster payoffs makes the ceiling low. Fall of Gil-galad is essentially a Commander card.

Price Context
Current price
$0.32 bulk tier
At $0.32, Fall of Gil-galad is bulk, and that price is appropriate — it's a narrow card that sees play almost exclusively in Saga or Tolkien-themed Commander builds. Don't expect movement unless a new commander pushes Saga synergies into the spotlight.
