Exploration Broodship puts a land into play from your hand each turn cycle, generates creature tokens as a byproduct, and turns cards like Glacial Chasm — normally a liability to upkeep — into renewable engines rather than drains. Hearthhull, the Worldseed in particular treats it as a core piece, not a luxury. It does cost six mana, so you need a deck that survives to the mid-game to get full value.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Hearthhull, the Worldseed
Hearthhull, the Worldseed's entire game plan revolves around putting lands into play repeatedly, and Exploration Broodship is one of the most reliable engines for doing exactly that at scale — the token generation along the way feeds Hearthhull's creature-based payoffs simultaneously.

Szarel, Genesis Shepherd
Szarel, Genesis Shepherd wants a steady stream of creatures and land drops to fuel its graveyard recursion loop, and Exploration Broodship delivers both in a single card, making it an almost automatic inclusion.

Tannuk, Memorial Ensign
Tannuk, Memorial Ensign benefits from the incremental resource generation that Exploration Broodship provides, using the extra lands to accelerate into Tannuk's larger threats while the tokens fill out the board.

Hazezon, Shaper of Sand
Hazezon, Shaper of Sand scales its Desert-token output with land drops, so Exploration Broodship's consistent land play each turn directly translates into more tokens and a wider board.

Lumra, Bellow of the Woods
Lumra, Bellow of the Woods triggers off lands entering the battlefield, and Exploration Broodship feeds that trigger reliably while also adding bodies, compounding value each turn the ship stays in play.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is the natural home for Exploration Broodship — a six-mana permanent that generates value over multiple turns fits perfectly in a 40-life, multiplayer format where games go long enough to recoup the investment. The token production and repeated land drops scale well in pods where raw card advantage accumulates into decisive board states. In Legacy and Vintage, where it's technically legal, the cost is simply too high for formats that end on turn two or three; nothing about Exploration Broodship is broken enough to see play there. Oathbreaker sits closer to Commander's pace, and decks with the right planeswalker-commander shell could find a home for it, though six mana is still a real ask in a 20-life format.
