Ennis, Debate Moderator puts a 2/2 token into play every time a noncreature spell resolves — an engine that runs itself as long as you keep casting spells. The cost is that you're locked into a three-color identity and a four-mana body that doesn't protect itself, so Preston, the Vanisher decks that double-dip on token triggers get the most out of it.

Preston, the Vanisher copies the illusion tokens Ennis, Debate Moderator generates whenever a noncreature spell resolves, turning each spell into two triggers and doubling the board presence for free.

Yorion, Sky Nomad
Yorion, Sky Nomad blinks Ennis, Debate Moderator to reset any enters-the-battlefield restrictions and pairs cleanly with a high noncreature spell density, keeping the token engine firing every turn of a long game.
Format Analysis

In Commander, Ennis, Debate Moderator is a persistent token engine in spell-heavy Azorius or Esper builds — the 100-card singleton format gives it room to shine in decks that already want to cast three or four noncreature spells per turn. Competitive formats are a harder sell: Standard and Pioneer will test it in aggressive token shells, but a four-mana 2/2 with no immediate board protection asks a lot at that cost. Modern has too much efficient removal for a do-nothing-until-next-spell setup to survive reliably. Legacy and Vintage have no interest. Oathbreaker is where a controlling build could abuse it as the signature spell's engine piece, though the format's smaller player base limits how much data exists.

Price Context
Current price
$0.22 bulk tier
At $0.22, Ennis, Debate Moderator sits firmly in bulk territory — pick it up without a second thought. Bulk rares with narrow engine roles rarely climb unless a combo breaks out around them, so treat this as a cheap pickup for the decks that want it, not a spec.
