Energy Field shuts off all damage from sources not in play — effectively making you invincible to most threats — as long as your graveyard stays empty. Pair it with Rest in Peace and that condition maintains itself permanently; Zur the Enchanter tutors both pieces into play on the same attack step.

Zur the Enchanter
Zur the Enchanter fetches Energy Field directly onto the battlefield, and a follow-up attack can pull Rest in Peace to lock the engine in place — two attacks and you're near-untouchable.

In Commander, Energy Field is a staple in stax and control shells that can reliably keep the graveyard clear — without that support it's a liability, not a lock. Legacy sees occasional fringe play in enchantress and prison builds where graveyard hate is already part of the gameplan, but dedicated combo decks have faster win conditions and rarely need it. Vintage has too many ways to fill a graveyard incidentally for Energy Field to hold reliably, so it doesn't see meaningful play there. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander's dynamic: powerful in the right shell, a dead card outside it.

Current price
$1.72 cheap tier
At $1.72, Energy Field sits firmly in the budget tier for a card with genuine combo potential. The price reflects its narrow usefulness — it does nothing without graveyard exile support — but for the decks that want it, it's an easy include at this cost.
