Echo Storm copies a target artifact spell for each time you've cast your commander this game — in the right deck, that's four or five artifacts landing for one card at instant speed. Urza, Lord High Artificer and Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy both recast their commanders repeatedly, turning Echo Storm from a niche trick into a storm-lite engine that can flood the board in a single turn.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy
Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy actively rewards recasting, so Echo Storm routinely resolves with three or more copies — enough to produce a Treasure swarm or duplicate key artifacts that immediately trigger Gimbal's own abilities.

Saheeli, the Gifted
Saheeli, the Gifted reduces artifact costs with her second ability and wants artifacts in quantity, so Echo Storm slots in as a multiplier — cast it targeting a useful artifact and suddenly Saheeli has fuel for her ultimate or her cost-reduction chains.

Echo Storm is a Commander card through and through — its copy count scales directly off commander casts, a mechanic that simply doesn't exist in Legacy or Vintage in any meaningful repetitive way. In those formats it's a legal curiosity that would almost never produce more than one copy, making it a strict downgrade to cards like Cackling Counterpart or Saheeli's Artistry. Commander is where Echo Storm earns its slot: high-cast-count commanders turn it into a one-card board state, and the instant speed makes it legitimately threatening as a response to a tapped-out opponent. Oathbreaker has the same commander-recasting logic and could support it in signature-spell builds, though the smaller card pool makes finding the right shell harder.
