Commander is where Echo Mage actually lives. The format's longer game gives you the turns to level it up, and multiplayer means copying a single haymaker spell hits three opponents instead of one. Legacy and Vintage are legal on paper but irrelevant in practice — the level-up mechanic is far too slow against those formats' turn-one and turn-two kill speeds. Modern is theoretically legal but Echo Mage has never seen competitive play there, and Pioneer and Standard are off the table entirely.
