Dreams of the Dead
Enchantment
: Return target white or black creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield. That creature gains "Cumulative upkeep
." If the creature would leave the battlefield, exile it instead of putting it anywhere else. (At the beginning of its controller's upkeep, that player puts an age counter on it, then sacrifices it unless they pay its upkeep cost for each age counter on it.)

Dreams of the Dead lets you recur creatures from any graveyard for just one mana, attaching a cumulative upkeep cost that ends the loop if you stop paying — but blue-black engines like Void Maw can feed the graveyard fast enough to make that upkeep irrelevant. At one mana, it's one of the cheapest reanimation engines in the game; the catch is that it asks for sustained mana investment every turn rather than a one-time payment.

Commander is where Dreams of the Dead does its best work — multiplayer games go long enough to recoup the cumulative upkeep, and graveyard-heavy strategies in blue-black have no shortage of targets. Legacy and Vintage technically support it, but faster, less conditional reanimation exists in both formats, so Dreams of the Dead doesn't crack those lineups. Oathbreaker shares Commander's slower pace and could run it, though the 20-life total makes the window shorter. Anywhere it's legal, the card rewards players who plan around the upkeep rather than ignore it.

Current price
$0.28 bulk tier
At $0.28, Dreams of the Dead is deep bulk — you're paying almost nothing for genuine reanimation utility. That price is stable; niche Old School demand keeps a floor under it, but there's no pressure pushing it higher.
