Dovin's Acuity card art
Dovin's Acuity enters and draws a card immediately, then refuels every turn you cast an instant during your upkeep — two-mana enchantments that replace themselves and keep replacing themselves are exactly the kind of engine low-to-the-ground Azorius decks want. The catch is the upkeep trigger requires you to hold up an instant each turn, which means it punishes tap-out strategies hard.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict
commander
legacy
modern
pioneer
standard
vintage
pauper
oathbreaker

Dovin's Acuity never cracked competitive Modern or Pioneer — two mana for a draw-one is fine, but the hoops required to retrigger it each upkeep are too steep when those formats move too fast to reliably hold up an instant every turn. In Legacy and Vintage, the competition for two-mana enchantment slots is brutal and this doesn't make the cut. Commander is where Dovin's Acuity has its best case: flash-heavy Azorius builds running commanders like Ranar the Ever-Watchful or Lier, Disciple of the Drowned can realistically trigger it every turn, turning a two-mana investment into a steady card advantage engine over a long game. In Oathbreaker, the same logic applies with even more focus — pair it with a planeswalker that rewards instant-speed play and the value accrues quickly.

Price Context

Current price

$0.26 bulk tier

At $0.26, Dovin's Acuity is deep bulk — buy a playset without thinking twice. Price stability is essentially guaranteed since there's no competitive demand pressure driving it up, so this is a permanent budget option for flash-tribal Commander builds.
