Donatello, Mutant Mechanic

Legendary Creature — Mutant Ninja Turtle

{T}: Put three +1/+1 counters on target artifact you control. If it isn't a creature, it becomes a 0/0 Robot creature in addition to its other types. Activate only as a sorcery.
Whenever an artifact you control is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, if it had counters on it, put those counters on up to one target artifact or creature you control.

Donatello, Mutant Mechanic card art
Donatello, Mutant Mechanic puts a free artifact — pulled straight from your deck — onto the battlefield the moment he enters, which is an immediate and significant board impact before you spend a single mana activating him. The cost is a five-mana 3/3 body with no protection, so he dies to any stray removal before you get value out of his tap ability; pair him with Eternity Vessel and similar high-cost artifacts to make the ETB alone worth the slot.

Donatello, Mutant Mechanic is legal across every major constructed format, but competitive constructed has no interest in a five-mana creature whose power is tutoring artifacts rather than winning on the spot. Commander is where he belongs — the singleton environment rewards his ability to find any artifact in the 99, and the longer game gives him the turns to activate repeatedly. In Oathbreaker he's a plausible signature-spell enabler shell, though the tighter life totals and faster pace make his lack of immediate protection more punishing.

$1.64 cheap tier

At $1.64, Donatello, Mutant Mechanic sits firmly in the bulk-rare tier — easy to pick up without budget anxiety. IP-driven cards sometimes spike on hype and then settle; the mechanical upside here is real enough that casual and artifact-focused Commander demand should keep him from dropping further.
