Displaced Dinosaurs

Creature — Dinosaur

As a historic permanent you control enters, it becomes a 7/7 Dinosaur creature in addition to its other types. (Artifacts, legendaries, and Sagas are historic.)

Displaced Dinosaurs card art
Displaced Dinosaurs turns every nonland permanent you play into a 3/3 Dinosaur body on top of whatever that permanent already does — effectively stapling a token generator onto your entire deck for six mana. The cost is real, but in nontoken-matters and Dinosaur-tribal shells the card snowballs fast enough that Ygra, Eater of All and The Cabbage Merchant players treat it as a near-automatic include.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
The Cabbage Merchant

The Cabbage Merchant

71.4% of decks · synergy 0.70

The Cabbage Merchant makes Food tokens constantly, and Displaced Dinosaurs converts every Food — and every other nonland permanent — into an additional 3/3, turning a life-gain engine into a board-flood engine at the same time. At 71% inclusion across over 3,000 decks, Displaced Dinosaurs is essentially a staple here.

02
Roxanne, Starfall Savant

Roxanne, Starfall Savant

34.1% of decks · synergy 0.32

Roxanne, Starfall Savant cares about Meteors and making treasure, so every treasure token becoming a 3/3 Dinosaur alongside Displaced Dinosaurs means the deck's mana production doubles as a creature army. The two-for-one on each token trigger is exactly what Roxanne shells want to push damage over the line.

03
Jolene, the Plunder Queen

Jolene, the Plunder Queen

25.0% of decks · synergy 0.23

Jolene, the Plunder Queen rewards players for making treasures and giving them out, and Displaced Dinosaurs converts each of those treasures into a combat-relevant 3/3 rather than a one-shot mana rock. That shift from disposable mana to permanent board presence is the core reason Jolene lists reach for it at nearly 25% inclusion.

04
Vraska, the Silencer

Vraska, the Silencer

23.1% of decks · synergy 0.22

Vraska, the Silencer converts opponents' permanents into Treasure tokens on death, and Displaced Dinosaurs ensures each of those treasures immediately becomes a 3/3 Dinosaur — stealing resources and growing your board in the same motion. The synergy is tight enough that nearly a quarter of Vraska decks run it.

05
Samwise Gamgee

Samwise Gamgee

20.3% of decks · synergy 0.20

Samwise Gamgee triggers off Food tokens and nontoken permanents entering play, and Displaced Dinosaurs means every Food — and every other permanent — lands as a 3/3 too, compounding Samwise's enters-the-battlefield triggers with raw board size. That combination makes Displaced Dinosaurs a consistent include in over 20% of Samwise lists.

Displaced Dinosaurs is a Commander card through and through — six mana does nothing in Legacy or Vintage, where the legal status is academic and the card will never see a table. In Commander, the calculation flips: six mana is reachable by turn four or five with standard ramp, and a persistent replacement effect that generates 3/3s off every nonland permanent is exactly the kind of value engine the format rewards. Token strategies, treasure synergies, and Dinosaur-tribal shells all have legitimate reasons to run it, which explains strong inclusion rates across multiple different archetypes. Oathbreaker is the one other format where it could theoretically appear, but the compressed game length makes six mana a steeper ask than in Commander's longer games.

Budget Alternatives

Cheaper options that do most of the same work

The honest answer is that nothing does exactly what Displaced Dinosaurs does at a lower price — the on-type conversion for every nonland permanent is unique. Regal Behemoth and Xenagos, the Reveler can fill adjacently similar roles in green ramp and token shells respectively, generating creatures or mana off your board presence, but neither blankets all permanent types the way Displaced Dinosaurs does and both require different strategic contexts to perform.

Price Context

Current price

$5.13 mid tier

At $5.13, Displaced Dinosaurs sits in the mid tier — cheap enough that it's not a budget obstacle, expensive enough that it reflects genuine demand from multiple archetypes rather than speculation. It delivers consistent, format-defining value in the shells that want it, so the price is well-earned and unlikely to feel like a waste.
