Diamond Lion card art
Diamond Lion is a Lion's Eye Diamond stapled to a creature — three mana of any color on demand, paid for by discarding your entire hand. That drawback is brutal in a vacuum, but for commanders like Rielle, the Everwise who scale off each discard, or Feldon of the Third Path who wants cards in the graveyard, it's not a cost at all.

Rielle, the Everwise turns every discard into a draw, so cracking Diamond Lion refills your hand immediately — the 'cost' becomes a free loot effect attached to a mana ritual, which is exactly the kind of engine Rielle shells are built to exploit.

In Commander, Diamond Lion occupies a narrow but powerful niche: it's a reusable Lion's Eye Diamond in the right shell, and shells that abuse it — discard payoffs, graveyard recursion, storm-adjacent engines — are real enough that it sees meaningful play. Outside Commander, Legacy is the only format where it's seen any competitive discussion, and even there it struggles against actual Lion's Eye Diamond, which is an instant-speed zero-mana artifact rather than a three-mana creature with summoning sickness. Modern and Vintage have access to faster, harder-to-interact-with alternatives. Diamond Lion is a Commander card through and through.

Pricing data isn't currently available for Diamond Lion, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for a live number before buying. Given its narrow application and the existence of Lion's Eye Diamond for players with deeper budgets, demand stays Commander-specific — it's not a card that spikes from tournament play.
