Death's Presence converts every creature death into a permanent stat bonus for something still alive — in a token or +1/+1 counter deck, that snowballs fast. Six mana is a real cost, but commanders like Ghave, Guru of Spores and The Swarmlord can pay it back in the same turn it lands.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

The Swarmlord
The Swarmlord generates Tyranid tokens whenever you draw excess cards, and Death's Presence means every token that dies in combat feeds counters to the survivors, turning each swing into a net power gain regardless of trades.

Kresh the Bloodbraided
Kresh the Bloodbraided already grows from creature deaths, and Death's Presence lets the rest of the board grow with him — when a big threat gets removed, the +1/+1 counters scatter instead of vanishing, keeping your board threatening even after a wipe.

Kyler, Sigardian Emissary
Kyler, Sigardian Emissary pumps every Human you control, and Death's Presence ensures that any Human dying in combat redistributes its power as counters, so trades never truly cost you board presence.

Magus Lucea Kane
Magus Lucea Kane leans on large-power creatures with counters, and Death's Presence creates a recursive feedback loop — when one threats dies, its counters pile onto the next, making the deck resilient to targeted removal in a way most Temur builds aren't.

Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord sacrifices creatures for damage, and Death's Presence means each sacrifice also fattens up whatever creature Jarad will sacrifice next, compressing both value and threat into the same engine.

Death's Presence is a Commander card through and through — six mana is simply too slow for Modern, Pioneer, or Legacy, where games end before a passive enchantment accrues meaningful value. In Commander, the longer game gives it room to operate, and in creature-heavy builds it functions as a soft counter to board wipes, keeping your investment alive in the form of +1/+1 counters even when the bodies are gone. Oathbreaker is technically legal but shares the same speed problem as the 60-card formats. Stick to Commander, where Death's Presence is legitimately powerful rather than merely playable.

Pricing data for Death's Presence isn't currently available through our sources, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for the latest. It sees enough Commander play — particularly in The Swarmlord and Kresh builds — that copies don't usually sit in bargain bins, but it has never spiked into must-have territory either.
