Damning Verdict wipes the board of every creature with a counter on it — and in the current counter-heavy meta, that's often most of the table. At five mana in white, the cost is reasonable for a selective wrath, and Tidus, Yuna's Guardian turns it into a one-sided massacre by keeping your own countered creatures off the casualty list.

Commander is the obvious home for Damning Verdict — a four-player pod almost guarantees someone has countered creatures, and selective wraths that spare your own board are exactly the kind of effect that warps threat assessment at the table. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but irrelevant; those formats don't run counter-dense creature strategies at a pace where a five-mana sorcery competes.
