Cryoshatter destroys an artifact for three mana at instant speed and puts a lore counter on each Saga you control — a two-for-one if you're already running Sagas, a slightly overcosted Shatter if you're not. Outside dedicated Saga builds, cheaper artifact removal almost always exists; inside them, it earns its slot.

In Commander, Cryoshatter is a niche role-player: artifact removal is abundant and three mana is on the high end for unconditional destruction, so you need the Saga synergy to justify it over Generous Gift or Feed the Swarm equivalents. Competitive and casual Commander alike have enough better options that Cryoshatter lands in Saga-tribal shells or nowhere. In Pauper, where the card pool is narrower and Sagas see real play, it has a clearer argument. Across other 60-card formats — Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy — Cryoshatter is too narrow and too slow to see meaningful play given the density of cheaper artifact answers.
