Consuming Vapors kills a creature and gains you life twice — once when you cast it, once when the rebound triggers — making it two removal spells stapled together for four mana. The catch is that it only hits nonblack creatures, which is a real constraint in Commander, but the Outrider en-Kor combo line makes it a must-include in dedicated sacrifice and lifegain shells.

Commander is where Consuming Vapors does its best work — the rebound trigger is almost guaranteed to fire, and hitting two separate creatures across two turns is strong value in a format full of must-answer threats. Outside Commander, it sees virtually no competitive play in Legacy, Modern, or Vintage, where four mana for a conditional removal spell with a one-turn delay is far too slow against faster threats and blue interaction. Consuming Vapors is a Commander card through and through.
