Coma Veil locks down a permanent completely — no attacking, no blocking, no activated abilities — but at five mana for an aura that leaves the target on the board, that's a steep ask when Arrest effects exist at three. It's not unplayable, but it's never the right answer when better options are in reach.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Coma Veil competes in a removal slot against enchantments that either cost less or permanently exile the problem, and it rarely wins that competition. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a five-mana do-nothing aura when those formats end games on turn one or two. Pauper is the most charitable home — the commons pool is shallower, and total shutdown of an activated-ability creature like a Pestilence or a Disciple of Deceit has real upside — but even there, better common blue enchantments exist. Across every legal format, Coma Veil is a fringe consideration at best.

Price Context
Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Coma Veil is deep bulk — the kind of card that fills a bulk box and rarely leaves it. There's no demand pressure to push that price anywhere, so treat it as a throw-in, not a pickup.
